Do you ever stick with your New Years Resolutions?

Like most of us, we have a great plan and stick to it right at first but then it slowly fades away due to our busy life. Yearly, we hear of so many New Year Resolutions and why we should have one, however, what if we just decided to do a little at a time throughout the year, instead of making one big New Years Resolution?

This year I challenge you to commit to one thing for at least 4 months. Then if you’ve stayed consistent without wavering and think you can add too it – Great! I think this is the better idea of New Years Resolutions…the trick is to make it a habit –not just a goal or New Years Resolution. J

Ideas:

  1. Be positive with yourself and others
  2. Compliment others and yourself
  3. Be thoughtful and compassionate
  4. Be honest with yourself and others
  5. Speak with love to others and yourself
  6. Give ONE day or a few hours to charity and/or your church, whether once a week, month, or year. It is a known fact giving to and helping others makes you happy!
  7. Change your lifestyle slowly by taking one day at a time. If you waver, don’t give up, try again with a new slate tomorrow. Don’t live in the past!!
  8. Changing your diet can be easily done without tasting bland or taking more time to prepare meals. Select healthier organic foods choices to replace some of the processed foods. Start by fixing one organic meal during the week and see if you or your family notices any difference.
  9. You don’t have to exercise for hours each day to boost your metabolism like most say…If you exercise briskly 20-30mins a day for at least 4 days this will make a difference. If you add healthier foods and meals with it, you will notice even more results.
  10. It is a known assumption that you can’t lose weight without cutting calories, exercising, eating low or no carbs, fats, substituting protein bars /shakes for food etc. which all starves your body and causes malnourishment in the process. There are healthier ways to lose weight that do not cause starvation and malnourishment. One is to EAT! Yes, EAT! Your body’s metabolism SLOWS down when you do not eat or cut calories way back etc. Think of it as a fire burning, if you do not add another piece of wood to keep the fire going…it will eventually burn out. Eating small healthy meals throughout the day keeps your blood sugar levels in normal range and metabolism working. Cutting back calories, good healthy fats etc. are NOT smart ways to diet, slows the metabolism down; which is why you gain weight back when you go off the program, and causes some malnourishment due to the decreased calories and intake of foods. Our body has to ingest a variety of foods, including supplements at times, to ensure optimal health. Everyone is unique, different and needs to know what their body needs, e.g. foods, calories etc.

Don’t set yourself up to possibly fail with traditional New Years Resolutions…try a different approach and see if it works for you. If not, then you didn’t lose anything in the process but were open minded enough to give something new a try! Old habits are hard to break, but when you break them–the rewards are endless!
