Cyrolipolysis Body Shaping Fat Removal & Fat Freezing Treatment
What is this? It’s a treatment using Cryolipolysis (also known as fat freezing) to reduce localized fat deposits. This treatment involves cooling the fat cells to freeze and destroy them, which the body then naturally eliminates. The FDA approved it in 2010. Fat freezes at a higher temperature than skin. The Cyrolipolysis device cools your fat to a temperature that destroys it while leaving your skin and other tissues unharmed.
How does it work? Cryolipolysis isn’t surgery and doesn’t use needles. The device holds the part of your body you want to target, and your doctor uses between two paddles. The paddles cool quickly, and your doctor leaves them in place for about 35 minutes to 75 minutes. During that time, the process destroys about 20%-25% of the fat cells in the area that’s targeted. The final results may not show up for a few months, but you may start to see some changes within a few weeks. Your Immune System clears out the dead fat cells slowly over this time. Studies have shown an average fat reduction of between 15-28% at around 4 months after initial treatment. However, you may begin to notice changes as early as 3 weeks after treatment. Dramatic improvement is noticed after about 2 months.
Who is it for? CoolSculpting or Cryolipolysis can be used on any fat bulges that won’t go away. Even if you’ve exercised and made diet changes. It works on small pockets of fat and smooths out (or contour) a particular part of your body. It works best on those who’s BMI is between 18.5-25, higher BMIs between 25-30+ will need more than four treatment sessions.
A doctor can use Cryolipolysis to kill fat cells in areas like:
Does CoolSculpting help with visceral fat?
There are two types of fat: subcutaneous and visceral. Subcutaneous fat is the kind you might be more familiar with, it’s the extra pounds around your stomach, hips, and ankles, as well as other areas with visible fat. Visceral fat is the fat that cushions your organs, so it’s deeper inside your body. You might not be able to see it, but having too much visceral fat can raise your risk for diabetes and heart disease.
CoolSculpting can freeze the subcutaneous fat near the surface of your skin. But it can’t do anything about visceral fat.
What the difference between CoolSculpting and Ultrasonic Cavitation? Ultrasonic cavitation and Cryolipolysis fat freezing are both very popular choices when it comes to non-surgical body slimming treatment options. CoolSculpting uses cold temperatures to freeze and eliminate fat cells, while Ultrasonic Cavitation uses high-frequency sound waves to break down fat cells. Ultrasonic Cavitation is one of the safest and most effective non-invasive options to consider if you are looking for permanent fat removal. Fat cavitation works by using low frequency ultrasound waves to burst fat cell membranes, destroying the fat cells. The dead fat cells are then gradually flushed out like typical waste via the lymphatic and interstitial systems. Cryolipolysis fat freezing, on the other hand, destroys fat cells using cold temperatures. The theory that underpins Cryolipolysis is that fat cells are more vulnerable to damage caused by the cold than other cells. When fat cells become damaged due to thermal shock, the body initiates an inflammatory response, which then results in fat cell death, and the natural processing and elimination of the fat cells. While ultrasonic cavitation and fat freezing use completely different methods to destroy fat cells, they are similar in that they both permanently reduce the number of fat cells in the body. They both do this via a process known as apoptosis. Both are non-invasive, but CoolSculpting is FDA-approved for targeted fat reduction, while Ultrasonic Cavitation may require more sessions and is not as widely FDA-approved. These should not be combined in one use. They can be used safely separately. Some have found doing one of them then waiting a couple weeks and using the other has quicker results. However, you should not use both in one session.

Who should avoid Cyrolipolysis if you have:
Cryolipolysis should not be done on areas with:
If you fall into any of these categories, ask your doctor about alternatives like diet, exercise, liposuction, or abdominoplasty (tummy tuck).
CoolSculpting Side Effects:
Cryolipolysis done at your doctor’s office. You should be able to go back to your regular activities right away, so you don’t need to schedule recovery time afterward.
During the process, you may feel a pulling or tugging on your skin, tingling, aching, and an intense cold. These feelings might go away in a few minutes as the area becomes numb.
After the procedure, you might notice side effects like:
Rare side effects, you might get:
Sometimes your skin can look less smooth afterward. This is because the treatment destroys a small pocket of fat, but the surrounding areas still bulge. You can fix this with additional CoolSculpting sessions or liposuction.
Paradoxical fat hyperplasia, or paradoxical adipose hyperplasia (PAH), is when the number of fat cells in the treatment area go up instead of down. It can cause a large, firm, and typically painless mass under the skin in the treatment area. You might also notice a change in body weight.
PAH usually happens about 2 to 5 months after treatment. It can occur wherever you were treated. It’s not clear why it happens, it’s rare, but some doctors think that it has to do with equipment malfunctions. This could lead to the fat cells being cooled enough to spur growth, but not enough to destroy them.
This is a rare side effect, occurring in less than 1% of cases. More likely to happen if:
PAH won’t go away on its own. You may need:
CoolSculpting bruising
Up to 10% of people get bruises from CoolSculpting, possibly because of the suction from the vacuum. These bruises go away within a period of around 2 weeks or so.
CoolSculpting Effectiveness
Studies show that Cryolipolysis is safe and effective. The risks are few and rare. There’s no damage to your liver. Side effects are mild, too, and go away after a short time. On average, it lessens the amount of fat in targeted areas by 10%-25%.
Licensing: Indiana, like many other states, does not have a specific body contouring license and body contouring license is not required. However, Dr. Hartman has gone through training.
What to expect:
Before performing Cryolipolysis Dr. Hartman will do a consultation with you 30mins $60 or 60mins $120 to going over your medical history, diet and lifestyle, mental and emotional status, and you will discuss and then target areas for the procedure.
Your 2nd visit, Dr. Hartman will measure the area of fat you want to work on. She will then have you lay on a table or sit upright in a chair to be able to mark the specific area(s) to ensure accurate placement of the cooling device.
Your 3rd visit will be following up no later than 4weeks to talk with Dr. Hartman and for her to check the areas worked on. If you need in sooner 2weeks would be the earliest. This is a 30mins consult $60.
Your 4th visit will be using massage and/or ultrasonic cavitation to help to ensure things are moving, tightening, toning, and firming.
Your 5th visit will be the next area(s) you want to target at that time.
Current Prices on average at MedSpa’s and Other offices are typically from $750 to over $4,000 depending on specific treatment areas and the number of applicators needed and the providers fees. Example of Current Costs In the US:
Dr. Hartman’s introduction prices as: LOWER than “typical.“
These prices won’t last long. If you want to look GREAT for the summer! Call today! 765-860-2144 or email Dr.Renee@comcast.net

Laws in Indiana for Cryotherapy or Cyrolipolysis – Indiana does NOT currently require any specific license to perform this service. It is highly recommended by the state of Indiana to get training and certification, for the business to have a waiver, safely protocols in place and to get an informed consent before doing the treatment.
Indiana and the FDA nor any other agency require an operator of a cryotherapy / cryolipolysis device to have a medical license either. Nor does Indiana require any specific body contouring license ither.
